Arise Undergraduate Research and Innovation Internships 2025

Arise Innovation Hubs are looking for students who would be interested in an internship, working with a business for up to 6 weeks on a specific project or task.

 

Each year ARU allocates funds to support undergraduate research and innovation internships.  Designed to provide experience, knowledge, and skills to participants of projects, enabling knowledge exchange and generating impact. 

 

This funding includes Arise Innovation Hubs, where internships are offered in partnership with the businesses within their ecosystem. Designed to allow you to undertake a bespoke research and innovation project, the internships are typically completed full time during your summer vacation.

 

Internships are open to full time students only.  The maximum support offered by the scheme is 30 working days. Students are eligible to receive a tax-free bursary under HMRC rules at a rate of rate of £12.60 per hour / £88.20 per day / up to a maximum of £2646 and up to a maximum of 30 days.  Project must be completed and claimed by 31 July 2025.  All payments will be made directly by your faculty.

 

All internships offered are primarily for the development or benefit of you, the student. It is anticipated that businesses participating in the scheme may wish students to sign an intellectual property agreement, depending on the nature of the proposed project.

 

We have a range of projects available with the following businesses:

 

Ace Music Therapy

Ace Music Therapy CIC is a social enterprise based in Chelmsford providing 1.1 and group music therapy and community music services to people of all ages and abilities across Essex, Norfolk, London and Hertfordshire. They are looking for a student to design and produce a Social Impact Report. The successful candidate will implement their statistics/data analysis knowledge to come up with a new system to support more powerful data and impact. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in music therapy. They will be confident working with statistics and analysing data and also have excellent graphic design skills.      

 

C-Prio

C-Prio is developing and testing cutting-edge AI histopathology cancer diagnosis tool, to streamline the cancer diagnosis services and save lives. Data preparation is an important step in this whole process of training and testing AI systems. The successful candidate will have basic experience of Python, at least two other computer languages, and be interested in working with AI projects and cancer services. Based within a commutable distance from Chelmsford or Harlow, the applicant will learn how to handle hundreds of large histopathology images of colorectal biopsy and how to get image data ready for AI training and diagnosis testing. They will get experience of coding environments in data science and AI development in a startup, with opportunities and guidance to practice on using Python to handle data.

 

Antobot

Antobot is an award-winning start-up providing aordable robotics for sustainable agriculture, based in Chelmsford. They combine cutting-edge hardware and software with a world-first embedded AI and controls system for agri-robots, they make fully digitised precision farming available for all. The successful applicant will work on a project relating to an existing product and seek to assess, review and propose improvements where appropriate. They will spend time researching methods used for controlling pests and diseases and carry out investigation of non-chemical methods used by Antobot in controlling fungal diseases in the plants. Applicants will be required to have a good understanding of data analysis with a strong suitable engineering background.

 

These businesses at Arise are looking for interns who can work and problem solve independently, who are trustworthy, and have excellent observational and communication skills.  All students will need an ARU named supervisor/staff member to support the project. 

 

We will then shortlist applicants with the businesses and invite you to interview at the most relevant Hub.

 

Start and end dates will be in agreement with the businesses along with working patterns, and internships will all be completed by 31 July 2025.
